Erstein - the perfect starting point!
Whether in the town or in the country, among the vines or in the forest, you’ll be spoilt for choice with places to visit in Alsace when you stay at the Hotel des Bords de l’Ill in Erstein. Just 20 minutes away, Strasbourg, capital of Europe, offers an incredible historic and architectural heritage that has made the city the richest in Alsace. The city centre with its cathedral, a true masterpiece of Gothic art, is classed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its museums, its picturesque Petite France quarter, its way of life, its restaurants and its cafés have made it an exceptional place to discover the different sides of Alsace.
Erstein is also ideally located for exploring the Route de la Choucroute (the Sauerkraut Road), as well as the Alsace Wine Route and its towns and villages. These include Obernai straddling the foothills of the Vosges, Barr, Ribeauvillé, Riquewihr (classed among the Most Beautiful Villages in France), Kayersberg (chosen as France’s favourite village in 2017) and Colmar (home to the unmissable Musée Unterlinden and the Isenheim Altarpiece).
The town of Erstein is also 30 minutes from the international theme park Europa Park in Germany, 35 minutes from the Château du Haut Koenigsbourg, the Cigoland stork sanctuary, the Volerie des Aigles eagle park and the Montagne des Singes monkey park, plus a couple of kilometres from the ski slopes of Champ du Feu, La Bresse and the Vosges.
