Discover Erstein

From our hotel on the banks of the Ill

Ideally located at the heart of Alsace between Strasbourg and Colmar, and just a few kilometres from the German border, the town of Erstein in the department of Bas-Rhin combines the quality of life you’d expect from the countryside with its green spaces and rivers with the services of a town with a dynamic economy. Known since the Middle Ages for its monastery and since 1894 for its sugar refinery, it is the perfect place from which to discover the Route de la Choucroute (Alsace’s Sauerkraut Road).

Our hotel on the banks of the River Ill is perfect for holidaying. To start, take a bucolic stroll along the riverfront. Then enjoy a dose of culture at the inter-communal multi-media library, the Espace Etappenstall archaeological museum and the Musée Wurth, which exhibits the Wurth collection in France, one of the biggest corporate collections of contemporary and modern art in Europe. Afterwards, take one of the historic walks to discover the architectural and natural heritage of the town of Erstein. The “Cœur de ville” trail showcases the town’s remarkable buildings and sites such as the Maison des Tanneurs, the “Patrimoine industriel” trail is based around the worsted wool mill, while the “Au fil de l’eau” trail takes place by the water.

Erstein is also the top place for numerous events and activities throughout the year, including exhibitions, agricultural and poultry markets, a Christmas market, a sweet market, concerts, storytelling, and free shows. There’s also the Festival du Sucre held in the last weekend of August, with floral floats, shows, a messti (traditional Alsatian fair) and fireworks.
